Hello GU Amnestiers!<\/p>\n
Hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend. \u00c2\u00a0Was great to see so many back on Tuesday- and to have so much more space in Qudos was such a delight! \u00c2\u00a0We’re back in\u00c2\u00a0Qudos, 5pm on Tuesday<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0in the\u00c2\u00a0QMU. \u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>After the vote on campaign areas last week, the two which came out on top were human rights in Burma and women’s rights, so these will be our campaigns for the next few weeks!<\/p>\n This week we’re focusing on\u00c2\u00a0women’s rights. \u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>We’ll have three areas set up; one on women in Afghanistan, one on women in Iran, and another dedicated to banner making for all the arty types! \u00c2\u00a0There’s loads of information on the AI UK website:<\/p>\n http:\/\/www.amnesty.org.uk\/ Also, we’re having our second\u00c2\u00a0social at The Common Rooms\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>straight after the meeting. \u00c2\u00a0Please come along for drinks and\u00c2\u00a0FREE FOOD!!<\/strong><\/p>\n Coming up<\/span><\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n – TOMORROW! World Day Against the Death Penalty\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00c2\u00a0Monday 10th October<\/strong>: ACTION ON LIBRARY HILL 11-3PM. \u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>We’re doing a visual action tomorrow, holding placards with death penalty prisoners’ names\u00c2\u00a0on library hill leading up to a table with a petition. \u00c2\u00a0Please come along and get involved\/support out first taste of activism this year!\u00c2\u00a0http:\/\/www. <\/p>\n -\u00c2\u00a0This Wednesday, 12th Oct<\/strong>, there is a film screening in\u00c2\u00a0The Arches\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>about women’s rights in South Korea. \u00c2\u00a0The tickets are \u00c2\u00a32, and the lady who is running the night is coming to the meeting on Tuesday to tell us more about it.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n -\u00c2\u00a0Weekend away:\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>please fill out the poll on Facebook if you want to come!\u00c2\u00a0http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ <\/p>\n – The\u00c2\u00a0Big Fun Run\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>(http:\/\/www.bigfunrun.com\/ <\/p>\n -\u00c2\u00a0The Secret Policeman’s Ball\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>is confirmed for\u00c2\u00a0Saturday 4th February\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>in Qudos- very exciting! \u00c2\u00a0Billy Kirkwood is confirmed as our compere and in the next couple of months we’ll get going on a big publicity drive- there’s lot’s to do! \u00c2\u00a0This annual night of comedy has been increasingly successful over the last couple of years, raising thousands of pounds for Amnesty, and we want to make this one the biggest yet!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n – \u00c2\u00a0As well as all this, there’s loads more in the pipeline: a club night, a freedom of expression night, Christmas caroling, and please tell us if you’re keen to organise something, or have a fundraising or campaigning idea.<\/p>\n If you’ve not been to the first three meetings, please come along- newcomers are always welcome.
