Glasgow To Edinburgh On Two Wheels

May 28, 2010 in events, photos by Rob Hallam

We made it! 60 miles, and we got to Edinburgh (eventually!). There were a couple of setbacks (puncture, mangled wheel), but we avoided major disaster and no-one fell in the canal. We were raising money for the Glasgow Unity Centre, which does great work in providing asylum seekers and refugees with invaluable services.

Amnestea In The Park

May 26, 2010 in events, main, photos by Rob Hallam

As an end-of year event, we had a tea party / picnic in Kelvingrove Park in the glorious sunshine, modelled on the Amnestea parties Amnesty has been organising. It was such good fun it was tentatively decided we will have another one next year!

Film Screening: Persepolis

October 14, 2009 in events by Rob Hallam

There will be a screening of the film Persepolis on Thursday 15 October on level 6 of the Boyd Orr, lecture theatre E. The screening should start at around 7 PM, but we have the room from 6:30 so feel free to come along for a chat beforehand.

Persepolis poster
The story follows a young girl as she comes of age against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution. The story ends with Marjane as a 22-year-old expatriate. The film won the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
(Thanks to Wikipedia for description and poster)

This film came third in the Amnesty UK media team’s Top 10 Human Rights Films Poll (request on twitter), so it is certainly worth coming along to watch.

Hello to everyone past, present and future!

First of all thank you to everyone who showed an interest in Amnesty International and put down their e-mail addresses over the past week. I’m sure all of your inboxes are jammed with clubs and socities inviting you to one thing or another so i will try to keep this short!

Our first meeting of the year will take place tomorrow, Tuesday 22nd of September, 5pm, in committee room 1 in the QMU. (Head up to the 3rd floor, turn left and it is the first room on the right, should be clearly signed.) The meeting will be an introduction to who we are and what we do so please do come along, even if you are not sure what amnesty does, this is your chance to come and see! The meeting is an open event so please, also, feel free to bring along any friends.

Tomorrow is also going to see in our first social of the year, a chance for people to meet, chat and generally get to know each other. It shall be starting from 8pm in the Halt Bar (follow this link for directions) and we hope to see as many of you there as possible, again an open event ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you very much.
Look forward to meeting you all,
Megan,

Invisible Children: The Rescue

March 30, 2009 in events, invisible children by Rachel

Hello all,

the time to take action has finally arrived. It is exam time I realise this but please if you can spare some time tell everyone your close to about this event. We must must must let people know about it.

I am calling on all of you to gather at my flat on Thursday at 5pm so we can get a well known face to rescue Joseph Kony’s child soldiers. We will be dabbling with the force of you tube in ways you can’t imagine in order to get the doctor….yes the doctor to come and rescue us.

247 West Princes Street, Glasgow, 5pm- everyone will make their own version of the rescue plea to Mr David Tennant to ask him to come and help us with our rescue in Edinburgh on the 25th APRIL. Please if you can make it come along, we need as many faces as posisble to ensure he takes our plea seriously.

TO THE RESCUE
