AGM Today!
March 20, 2012 in main by Rob Hallam
Hello Amnestiers!
Thanks to those of you who helped at the Aye Write festival this week- much appreciated!
After this week’s meeting (which is our laast!) we’re having a social at 6pm in the Common Rooms so please come down for some drinks and FREE FOOD!
This week’s meeting
This Tuesday is our last meeting this year! It is also our Annual General Meeting, where all committee positions are up for re-election. Anyone can stand for any position. You can also stand for more than one if you don’t get the position you initially stand for. If you’re not running for a position it’s really important that you still come along to exercise your democratic right and to ensure a strong committee for next year!
Here’s a run-down of what’s up for election:
PRESIDENT: The president is responsible for taking the weekly meetings and chairing the weekly committee meetings and is ultimately responsible for any decisions made by the society.
VICE PRESIDENT: The VP is in a co-managerial position with the president and is responsible for the running of the meetings if the president is away/unwell etc.
SECRETARY: The secretary takes the minutes of the committee meeting and is responsible for the correspondence of the society.
TREASURER: Responsible for the group’s finances and running the society’s account – works closely with the secretary and the arts and materials convener.
FUNDRAISING CO-ORDINATOR: Responsible for registering events and money with the Raise-off and to develop and implement new fundraising ideas.
CAMPAIGNS CO-ORDINATOR: Organising campaigning events (activism rather than fundraising).
WEBSITE CONVENER: Runs the website, blog and Twitter accounts.
PUBLICITY OFFICER: Responsible for publicity of campaigning and fundraising. Writes press releases, liases with the media, organises poster production and distribution.
ARTS AND MATERIALS CONVENER: Responsible for collating paints, banners, paper, pens etc for weekly meetings and for special events/campaigns. Also responsible for concepts of visual campaigns.
SECRET POLICEMAN’S BALL OFFICER: Takes the main responsibility for the planning of our biggest event: The Secret Policeman’s Ball, as it needs to be planned from September. Will work closely with the publicity officer. After the Ball is over, this role will become an ordinary board member’s role.
ORDINARY BOARD MEMBER: Does a little bit of everything!
These are the specific roles – but they do end up being quite fluid over time and as the committee become more settled.
Although this is the last weekly meeting of the year, our work is far from over! We still have the Philanthrobeats club night on April 5th (here’s the Facebook link: http://www.facebook.com/events/191158907663426/) and we’re planning on walking the West Highland Way after exams- more deets to come soon!
See you at the AGM tomorrow and at the Common Rooms after for some fooood!
